Our Simple and Functional Toddler Playroom

The playroom is slowly turning into a beautiful space for imagination and play. Now that it feels more organized, I thought I would share a bit of Our Simple and Functional Toddler Playroom. If you are looking to create a space for your kiddos to play, I hope this will serve as inspiration.

Play Kitchen Area

Our gift to Ronia for her birthday was a play kitchen from Ikea that I renovated a bit. To learn all about that process, be sure to check out How to Transform A Simple Ikea Play Kitchen. There is also a cafe menu printed on the back of the kitchen, so sometimes I turn it to face out so that we can pretend to eat at a cafe.

The frame is wood that I had cut at Home Depot. I assembled them myself basked of an idea in my head and Pinterest photos. Then I secured it to the wall with command strips. The food is from Ikea, Target and various other places. The tiered basket stand is from World Market.

Bookshelf

Ronia loves to look at books and have us read to her, so I wanted to incorporate a bookshelf into the room somehow. The thing is, the playroom isn’t that big and I knew a normal bookshelf might take up too much space, so I found this cute one on Amazon. We used a few pieces of command strips to hold it to the wall and so far it works great! I chose command strips so we could move the shelf easily in the future.

Cube Shelves

We have had these cube shelves since before Ronia was born. They’ve seen better days, but work well. Ever week and a half or so I rotate the toys that are in each of the cubes, as well as anything sitting on top.

Sensory Table

The sensory table was a Christmas gift from Ronia’s grandparents. I have so many fun idea for activities this year utilizing the table, so be sure to keep an eye out for future posts about that!

The “Zoo”

My sweet girl is obsessed with stuffed animals. It’s honestly very frustrating, because we have so so many of them. She loves them all, and I needed to find way to store the stuffed animals so that she could still see and access them. One day while I was searching my options, I found this “zoo,” and it has worked wonderfully thus far! Be sure to secure it to the wall very well. We learned that the hard way.

Dress-up Area

Our newest addition to the playroom is a little dress-up area. Ronia loves to wear what she calls her “Fancy Nancy” shoes and princess dresses while she plays, so I decided to put a few of those items out for her to wear every week. We rotate them to keep her interested. The shelf is one from her original nursery that I turned upside down and mounted with command strips.

Letter Board

I used the letter board for photos when Ronia was a baby and now it hangs on the playroom wall. Every couple weeks I change the letters to a new Bible verse for us to talk about. She has trouble remembering the short verses, but can repeat them with me and gets excited when we talk about them. It’s a new part of our routine that helps not only her, but myself.

Educational Prints

To be honest the magnetic frames I bought for the educational prints are a little big, but I kind of like the look of them! I found all sorts of fun educational art on Etsy that I had printed at Fedex. We switch them now and then, just to keep it fresh.

Area Rug

My brother and his family got our sweet Winnie the Pooh area rug for Ronia on her birthday. I put it out for a couple weeks at a time with her Winnie the Pooh characters. She loves to show me where everyone lives and pretend they are in their houses. It’s so cute.

Felt Calendar

The felt calendar is something I introduced several months ago, but we are just now getting consistent about using it. Ronia doesn’t really understand the days of the week or anything, but she does love to run to the window and check the weather every day. Then I let her switch the weather picture, which is a big deal in our house.
