How to Transform a Simple Ikea Play Kitchen

Colton and I decided to give Ronia a play kitchen for her birthday, and it was an excellent decision. She is constantly playing in her little kitchen and making all sorts of fun things. Anyway, you know me. I couldn’t just get her the cheap and standard Ikea play kitchen. I wanted to make it a little extra special, so if you are interested in doing the same then read below to discover How to Transform a Simple Ikea Play Kitchen in your home.

1. Assemble the Play Kitchen.

Unless you are planning to paint the entire kitchen a different color, I recommend assembling the entire wood part of the kitchen first. (Leave the plastic parts for later.) The assembly of this kitchen does take a minute, as all Ikea items tend to do.

2. Spray Paint

I used gold spray paint on the sink bowl, faucet and rod. The grey plastic parts were just bumming me out, so I decided to add a little bit of flare and make it less dreary.

3. Add New Handles.

After a decent search I found @JasmineBeautySupply on Etsy, who makes handles for the oven, microwave and cupboard doors on Ikea play kitchens. I also added some knobs for the stove top burners and oven. They don’t really twist or anything, but are fun for pretend.

4. Change the Stove Top

The original Ikea play kitchen had a black and grey stove top that can light up the burners. Although that is a fun feature, my daughter is currently very afraid of fire and hot things. Also, the black and grey stove top isn’t as aesthetically pleasing, so because of a combination of those two things I went on Etsy and found a cute little wood stovetop to replace it.

PetitAbode on Etsy makes these incredible play stovetops and have the best customer service. Bonus tip: they also sell “less than perfect” stove tops at a discount. These stove tops might have a flaw in the or something, but let me tell you, I cannot tell the difference. I recommend saving a few bucks and getting the flawed version.

5. Stock Your Kitchen

Ronia got various play kitchen gifts for both her birthday and Christmas, so I will be sure to link them below. We obviously decided on wooden kitchen items and soft foods, but you can find play foods and utensils in many locations.
