Motherhood,  Welcome

How to Make the Most of Nap Time

Maximizing my toddlers nap time is so important for me and my work. Our daughter hasn’t always been the best sleeper, but now that she is two years old she takes a good two hour nap in the middle of the day. It’s a wonderful break, but I don’t always use those two hours to my advantage. If you are a busy mama like me who struggles focusing while your child rests, then read below to learn How to Make the Most of Nap Time.

1. Don’t Pick up Your Phone

The first way you can make the most of nap time is to not touch your phone. Let’s say you decide to check Instagram real quick before you work on other tasks… we both know you will get stuck in a loop and lose at least 30 minutes. Listen to music or an audiobook, but don’t get stuck in a scrolling vortex.

2. Set a Timer

Speaking of losing time, one of the best ways I know to make the most of nap time is to set a timer. Hey, you do it for your kids right? And it works! Give yourself 30 minutes to tidy the house or do dishes. Reading a book, scrolling or watching your favorite show can be a reward once the work is done.

3. Plan the Night Before

Planning nap time the night before is crucial. There have been so many naps that I’ve wasted, because my brain was all cluttered and I started five different projects, but finished none of them. Decide what you want to accomplish the night before. That way you set your own expectations and are prepared when the time comes.

4. Do the Most Important Thing First

You never know when your baby or toddler might decide to short nap. Choose to do the most important task first. Anything additional you accomplish will be a bonus.

5. Ignore the Mess

My final tip on How to Make the Most of Nap Time is to ignore the mess. If you are a stay at home mama who needs to work on your business during nap, then focus on that. Or if you are an exhausted mama who just needs to lay down and also take a nap, then do it! We cannot do it all, and that’s okay. Sometimes you have to ignore the mess to focus on something more important. I’m currently ignoring the mess in my house to write this blog post.
