How to Bring Hygge to Every Room In Your Home, Part 2

My frequent prayer is that God would bring peace and calm to every area of my life, to every room in my home. I’m an anxious person and this current season of pregnancy during a pandemic has me craving comfort in my family and home. Below is the second of a two part series, How to Bring Hygge to Every Room In Your Home (Part 2). I hope you enjoy these tips and tricks on how to saturate your life in hygge.

1. Back Porch/Patio

My back patio has become a bit of a haven this year. With quarantine and pregnancy keeping me at home much more than last summer, my time outside on our patio is precious. Whether you have a big backyard or a tiny little porch on the 5th floor or an apartment building, you can bring hygge to the space. Plant a few veggies or hang a fern. Get a hammock or a comfy chair to sit in. Hang some outdoor twinkle lights and start up the grill. Just spend time in the fresh air and relax. Basically, do whatever you need to do to make that space relaxing for YOU.

2. Entryway

The entryway includes the front walkway, porch, and door. It’s also the space just inside your front door. That entire area should be welcoming for guests, because it is their first impression of your home. It’s also important to bring hygge to your entryway for your sake. No one wants to walk in their front door and trip on shoes or walk through cobwebs. You want to feel at home and at peace. the good news is it is easy to bring hygge to your entry way. Check out these tips and tricks with How to Create a Welcoming Entryway.

3. Garage

You might be thinking, why would I want to make my garage a more peaceful space? Well, garages are often the most neglected spaces in our home. They are the dumping grounds for storage, recycling, or random things we don’t use very often. Neglecting the garage can easily lead to overwhelm when it becomes too messy. It might also make it difficult to use your garage properly and park your car.

Obviously the first step to bring hygge to your garage is to de-clutter the space. (Can you tell that’s always my first step?) If you use your garage for wood or auto work you might spend time organizing tools to keep the space safe. Label boxes and make sure they are properly sealed to be protected from wether changes.

4. Closets

The key to having hygge closets is organization and de-cluttering. When was the last time you sorted through the hall closet? Your walk-in? That weird closet you have in the garage or basement? It’s overwhelming to think about organizing the closets and cabinets in your home, but I promise it will be worth it in the end. Get ride of anything you don’t use or need. You will be surprised by how freeing it is to have a clean closet. For more ideas, check out 7 Reasons to Clear the Clutter From Your Closets.

5. Office

Do you have an office space at home? Again, the key to a hygge space is keeping things tidy. The first step to bring hygge to your home office is clearing away any clutter and organizing your work material. Once the space is tidy I suggest utilizing natural light or lamps. That type of lighting is better for productivity and clarity. For more ideas check out How to Bring Hygge and the Holy Spirit to Your Home Office.
