5 Ways to Refresh Your Prayer Life Today

The past several months I have been in such a prayer rut. I didn’t even realize it was happening until one day I thought about it and realized how fleeting and inconsistent my prayers had become. It made me sad to think of how little time I was spending with the Lord. If you are like me and having the same struggles, below are 5 Ways to Refresh Your Prayer Life Today.

5 Ways to Refresh Your Prayer Life Today

1. Go for a walk.

I often find prayer walking to be one of the most therapeutic practices. Perhaps it’s the movement or the fresh air, but there’s just something about walking and praying at the same time. If you are looking to refresh your prayer life, try talking a walk and just talking to your Heavenly Father. He is listening no matter where you are.

2. Find a prayer partner.

Another way to refresh your prayer life is to find a prayer partner. We’ve been very inconsistent as of late, but my husband and I love to pray together. That’s actually how we got to know each other when we were friends. We would share prayers requests once a week and then pray for one another throughout the week. If you are needing accountability or support, I highly recommend a prayer partner.

3. Read through scripture.

If you aren’t sure what to pray, then try praying through the scriptures. Speak Gods word to Him. Ask Him questions or praise Him for His power and mercy. Praying through scripture is often a good way for me to work through mental blocks.

4. Be still.

Still not sure what to pray? Then be still. Romans 8:26 says: “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” When you don’t have the words, God hears your heart. Be still with Him.

5. Create a prayer closet/war room.

The last of my 5 Ways to Refresh Your Prayer Life Today is to create a prayer closet or “war room.” I actually have a full blog post dedicated to this entitled How to Create a War Room or Prayer Closet in Your Home. Having a dedicated space to pray is an excellent way to remove distraction while also showing a deeper reverence to the importance of prayer. The space doesn’t have to be small, but it should be a space you can escape to for a moment or more to be alone with your Heavenly Father. Sometimes we need that.
