5 Things to Remember When You Declutter Your Home

Decluttering your home can be an overwhelming endeavor. When I decided to declutter every space in my home this year, I didn’t realize how much of an undertaking it would be. Was it still worth it? Yes. Read below to discover 5 Things to Remember When You Declutter Your Home.

1. It doesn’t have to happen in a day.

Although you might have time to declutter your entire home in a day, you likely will not. Prepare yourself by assuming it will take a few weeks if not months. Progress and not perfection.

2. It will look worse before it looks better.

Decluttering a space always makes it look worse before it looks better. Don’t get overwhelmed by the mess. Take it one thing at a time. The end result will be worth it.

3. You can ask for help.

Sometimes when I’m decluttering I can’t decide what stays and what goes. In that case, I ask other members of my family. Do we use this? Do we even need it? My family understands the goal and gives great advice when I’m cleaning.

4. Be honest with yourself.

It’s important to be honest with yourself while decluttering. Are you actually going to use that? Really? Do we have the space to keep this? Don’t lie to you.

5. Be ready to feel some strong emotions.

Decluttering your home can be an emotional process. I know when I go through Ronia’s old clothes, it often makes me very nostalgic. Be prepared to feel big feelings when cleaning out your home. It’s okay to sit with them if you need to or come back another day.
