Motherhood,  Welcome

Ronia Recommends: 10 Books to Read to Your Baby

Welcome to what I hope will be the start of a brand new series. Our daughter Ronia is five months old and so far seems to love a good book. It warms my heart to watch her smile as I turn pages. The ten books below are the ten I believe she likes best. Now, she’s five months old. I am basing these choices on her reactions – smiling, laughing and grabbing. In the future I hope she can pick the book list herself. For now I will do the choosing. Anyway, without further adieu, please enjoy Ronia Recommends: 10 Books to Read to Your Baby.

Ronia Recommends: 10 Books to Read to Your Baby

1. Olivia by Ian Falconer

Olivia reminds me a lot of Ronia. She’s precocious and energetic and filled with joy. Maybe that’s why she enjoys this book so much. Or perhaps it’s the black and white and red illustrations.

2. I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont

I Like Myself is such a wonderful read with vastly creative illustrations. It teaches kids to like themselves for whomever they are, inside and out. I grew up with so many insecurities and I’m working hard not to pass those on to my daughter.

3. Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney

Is there a kid in the world who doesn’t love Llama Llama Red Pajama? It’s the perfect bedtime story! And it gets stuck in my head in the worst way.

4. Sheep in a Jeep by Nancy Shaw

Sheep in a Jeep is a simple read with simple illustrations, but boy is it funny. Spoiler: Sheep should not drive jeeps.

5. The Monster at the End of This Book by Jon Stone

My siblings and I grew up absolutely loving The Monster at the End of This Book. It’s one of my nephew’s favorite books and now I think it might be Ronia’s. what I love about this one is how interactive it is for kids.

6. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

Out of all the books on Ronia Recommends: 10 Books to Read to Your Baby, The Very Hungry Caterpillar might be her absolute favorite. We keep it in the diaper bag for longer car rides and quick distraction, because she enjoys it so much. Maybe it’s because she’s like that caterpillar… hungry ALL THE TIME.

7. Great and Small Easter by Pamela Kennedy

My mom got us this little Easter book, and it’s the sweetest read. Something about the illustrations feels so comforting and gentle. It’s also a lift-the-flap book, so interactive!

8. Horton Hatches an Egg by Dr. Seuss

You might wonder if a 5 month old will sit through the entire story of Horton, but she sure does! Dr. Seuss is a staple in our house. The rhyming is so addictive I find myself thinking in rhyme throughout the day. Also, I had forgotten about this book. I’m glad she likes it, because I enjoy reading it!

9. The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss

Again, our little girl loves the Sneetches. She actually laughed at this book the first time we read it to her, which was so sweet. Not sure what it is about a Sneetch, but she loves them.

10. Little Owl Night by Divya Srinivasan

Little Owl Night has excellent illustrations for Ronia. She gets lost in the pictures. I’m looking forward to buying other books in this series.
