How to Plan a Hygge Weekend

Do you need a little rest and relaxation, but aren’t able to go on a proper vacation? You can find plenty of rest right where you are if you approach your time right. Hygge living is all about slowing down enough to save the simple beauty of life around you. Choosing to approach your weekend with a hygge mentality could be just the thing you need to recharge. Read How to Plan a Hygge Weekend below.

How to Plan a Hygge Weekend

1. Plan Ahead

The first step to planning a hygge weekend is to plan ahead. Set aside the weekend you are going to dedicate to relaxing and protect that time. Clear your schedule completely. Then decide what you would like to do that weekend. Remember not to pack your schedule, because doing too much can be the opposite of hygge. Simply choose a few things you definitely want to accomplish. For example, you could nap or read a few chapters of a book, take a nice long walk or go to dinner with friends. Pick two or three things to focus on and plan for those things ahead of time.

2. Get Outside

An essential item on your list for a hygge weekend, weather allowing of course, should be to get outside. Fresh air and sunshine are good for the soul. Find time on your hygge weekend to take a hike, pick wildflowers, nap in the hammock.. whatever you need to do to get your body a little extra vitamin D.

3. Eat Good Food

What’s a hygge weekend without delicious food? Think of a recipe you’ve always wanted to try and give it a shot. Buy some fruit from your local farmer’s market. Eat dinner at a unique restaurant with your friends. Give making charcuterie board a shot. Just eat some yummy food on your hygge weekend without constantly fretting about calories or diets. You can give yourself a little break to just eat food that’s good. Even a single freshly picked strawberry can be incredibly satisfying. Save those flavors!

4. Sleep in

Oh what I would give for a solid eight hours of sleep… If you have the opportunity to nap or sleep in on your hygge weekend, then please seize the moment. A good sleep can do wonders for your mind and body. Do yourself a favor and take a little snooze.

5. Be Present

Forget about your to-do list. Shake off all your worries and try to be present on your hygge weekend. Enjoy the sensation of your soft sheets when you wake up in the morning. Drink that morning cup of coffee slowly and listen to the birds outside. Hold your baby’s hand. Watch them play and learn without looking at your phone. Being fully present is essential on your hygge weekend.

6. Lower Your Expectations

My final tip on How to Plan a Hygge Weekend is to lower your expectations. Two days might seem like a long time, but the weekend will likely fly by much faster than you had hoped. Lower your expectations. You don’t have to accomplish a 50 item to-do list. You don’t have to take a trip. Keep it simple and know that things might not go to plan. It could rain or you could burn that dish you’ve been wanting to try. That’s okay. Take a deep breath and remember that life isn’t perfect.
