How to Create a Quiet Time Corner

One of my most visited blog posts is How to Create a War Room/Prayer Closet in Your Home. We don’t have a closet space in our new home that I could easily dedicate to quiet time with the Lord, so I decided to revamp the old blog post to How to Create a Quiet Time Corner. It really doesn’t matter where you spend time with God, but it helps me to have a dedicated space to clear my mind and focus on His voice.

1. Choose a Comfy Chair

It took me far too long to choose a chair for this corner. It’s an odd little space next to our closet, so I wanted something that would easy tuck away, but wouldn’t be uncomfortable. A rounded “barrel” chair seemed to be the best fit and I couldn’t be more happy with our choice. Our chair is the Vernon Upholstered Barrel Accent Chair by Thresholdâ„¢ in natural linen. It’s well made and cozy, but not so comfortable I could doze off reading the Bible.

2. Pick Inspiring Artwork

I knew I wanted to put a few framed pieces on the walls above our new chair, but I wanted to do more than put random artwork on the walls. We had two prints of the City of David from our trip to Israel. I didn’t do the best job framing them, but it was a learning moment. The other piece of art I chose for my quiet time corner is by @BibleSketches on Etsy.

The sketch is based on the story of the Woman in the Crowd in Luke 8, which is one of my favorite Bible stories. It’s also an excellent reminder of how we can and should approach God. The frame is from Hobby Lobby.

3. Utilize Natural Light

One of my favorite things about our bedroom is all the natural light. My quiet time often happens during my daughter’s nap and I love to open the window, feel the breeze and listen to the birds and just soak in the silence with my Heavenly Father. Sometimes all we need to be is still.

4. Add a Cozy Blanket or Stool

I’m always cold, so my final touch to my quiet time corner was a knit blanket made by my great aunt. It’s a beautiful reminder of love, patience and kindness. These are all Biblical virtues I strive toward daily, and they are the traits my great aunt displays. Her gift was the perfect finishing touch to my quiet time corner.
