How to Create a Minimal Laundry & Mud Room

Our home has a laundry room and mud room all in one. It tends to be the drop zone for everything, so I decided to take some time figuring out a system that works for us. It’s still a work in progress, but I thought I would share what we have done so far. Read below to discover How to Create a Minimal Laundry & Mud Room.

How to Create a Minimal Laundry & Mud Room

1. Decant Your Soaps

A few weeks ago I thought I would try decanting our laundry soaps. I wasn’t sure if it was something that would work for us, but so far I really like this system. I can when products are running low and I love the look as well. When organizing our home I have found that the less labels the better.

2. Organize and Hide Products

Like I mentioned above, I have found that hiding or removing product labels keeps my mind less distracted throughout the day. I found these baskets at Marshalls that have lids, so rather than storing my extra cleaning supplies on the open shelving I decided to tuck them away in labeled baskets.

3. Label, Label, Label

For months I had these baskets with no labels, so when I was looking for something I had to pull down each basket until I found what I was looking for. Save yourself the stretching and frustration by labeling the bins.

4. Set Up a Command Station

We recently upgraded our little command station/calendar area of the mud room. We needed a place to put our keys and mail so it didn’t get misplaced. I found this clear acrylic calendar from Magnolia and fell in love. The envelope is from Target.

5. Don’t Put it Down, Put it Away

Okay, so obviously this room is not and will not always be clean and organized. However, I’ve adopted a new rule that has been helping keep the clutter to a minimum. “Don’t put it down, put it away.” If it isn’t laundry or something that belongs in the mudroom, I try not to throw it in that room. What makes the room minimal, calming and organized is the lack of clutter. I want to try and keep it that way… if possible.
