Beautiful Christmas Books to Read with Your Kids

Our Christmas book collection has grown! I had no idea just how many winter and Christmas themed books we stored away. Below is our collection so far, but knowing me we will be adding another dozen by the end of the season. Y’all, I cannot help myself. Read below to discover 30 Beautiful Christmas Books to Read with Your Kids.

1. Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner

Have you ever wondered why your snowman looks so sad in the morning? Well this clever tale by Caralyn Buehner explores what exactly snowmen do at night. It’s creative, imaginative and such a great read.

2. No Two Alike by Keith Baker

No two snowflakes are alike, just like no two people are alike. This is a fun book about similarities and differences.

3. Little Owls Snow by Divya Srinivasan

Ronia had mixed feelings about the snow last year, much like Little Owl in this book. However, she seems excited when it flurried earlier this month. Little Owl learns to love the snow, because the winter season is so fleeting.

4. Baby Jesus by Usborne

Usborne created a sweet little nativity story that’s perfect for babies and toddlers. This book was a favorite of Ronia’s last year and remains so today.

5. Don’t Push the Button: A Christmas Adventure by Bill Cotter

Ronia loves anything to do with Bill Cotter’s Don’t Push the Button series. It’s a tempting tale for any kid who doesn’t like to be told no. So…. all children.

6. Llama Llama Jingle Bells by Anna Dewdney

Llama llama Jingle Bells is another simple book, but Ronia loves the rhyming of this series and the sweet illustrations. It’s also good to have a short, easy book on hand for those nights when you don’t want to get caught reading something lengthy like The Grinch.

7. The Biggest, Most Beautiful Christmas Tree by Ayme Rosenberg

Residents of a great fir tree make their home noticeable in hopes that Santa will visit. It’s a cute and classic book that we found at a vintage store in town.

8. Little Blue Truck’s Christmas by Alice Schertle

Little Blue Truck is certainly a favorite in our home. In this story he delivers trees to all his friends. Then, on the last page of the book the tree lights up and sparkles. Very festive!

9. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer by Rick Bunsen

I’m sure you have watched the classic Christmas cartoon about Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. We decided to introduce it in book form to Ronia this year, and mostly she was concerned the deer would be eaten by the Abominable Snowman. Oops!

10. The Hat by Jan Brett

We snagged our Jan Brett books at the same consignment sale we found the I Spy book. I’ve always loved her work. There is so much detail to the illustrations, which I think Ronia will appreciate more when she is older.

11. The Nutcracker by New York City Ballet

Last year this book seemed to have too many words to keep Ronia’s attention. I’m looking forward to introducing it to her again this year. The Nutcracker is such a classic tale that’s worth reading and attending in person.

12. Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett

Gingerbread Baby is also really fun, because it introduces the idea of baking together. Maybe we can try and make our own little gingerbread baby this year.

13. Peek-a-Flap Ho Ho Ho by Holly Berry-Byrd

This book is a pretty simple exploration of Christmas, but the flaps are what make it fun. Beware if you have a destructive baby or toddler who might just pull the flaps right off the book. Still, a cute one to read together.

14. You’re My Little Christmas Cookie by Natalie Marshall

We love Natalie Marshall’s sweet stories. All of her books do such a great job of speaking affirmation to your baby and even to yourself. They also have cut-outs, which Ronia loves.

15. There’s an Elf in Your Book by Tom Fletcher

Tom Fletcher books are a staple in our home. There’s an Elf in Your Book is a test for kids to see if they make the naughty or nice list, but with a twist.

16. How Do Dinosaurs Say Merry Christmas? by Jane Yolen

Yolen’s dinosaur book series is so creative. You can learn about the names of different dinosaurs and their features while also learning manners.

17. Fancy Nancy: Spendiferous Christmas by Jane O’Connor

We were introduced to this series last year, and Ronia loves Fancy Nancy. She can’t quite say her name yet, but she loves to look at all the pictures of all her crazy outfits and learn fun new words. If you have a girly-girl, definitely check out this book.

18. I Spy: Little Christmas by Jean Marzollo

Colton and I found this little I Spy book at a consignment sale before Ronia was born. She’s chewed on it quite a bit, but that shows how much it is loved. She’s also getting much better about finding the objects in the pictures.

19. The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg

The Polar Express is one of Ronia’s favorite soundtracks. This Caldecott award winning book is not only beautiful to look at, but kindles the spirit of Christmas within its pages.

20. How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the ultimate Christmas classic. It’s such a good lesson about the true meaning of Christmas, as well as forgiveness and kindness.

21. Santa Bruce by Ryan T Higgins

Santa Bruce is such a funny read. There are all these side conversations going on between the characters and Bruce is so cranky.

22. Elf by Kim Smith

Buddy the Elf discovers he is in fact a human, and not an elf living in the North Pole. He goes on a quest to find his father who is living in New York City and is… on the naughty list!

23. 5 Minute Christmas Stories by Disney Books

Ronia is falling in love with all the Disney characters, so we snagged his holiday story collection at Target. It’s basically an anthology of a variety of Disney stories and characters. A very cute gift for any kiddo that loves all things Disney.

24. Home Alone by Kim Smith

Kevin wishes his family would disappear. Then he wakes up one morning and they have! At first he has fun, but then he has to defend his home from robbers and finds himself missing his family. It’s a charming adaptation of family holiday classic.

25. The Advent Storybook: 25 Bible Stories Showing Why Jesus Came by Laura Richie

Starting with Genesis 1, The Advent Storybook walks you through the timeline of the Bible until the Birth of Jesus. At the end of every day are a few questions to discuss. It’s a great way to introduce the Bible to your littles.

26. The Shepherd on the Search by Josh Helms

The Shepherd on the Search is a Christian alternative to the Elf on the Shelf. Shepherd spends the season of advent traveling around your home looking for the baby Jesus. It’s such a great educational toy that we just added this year.

27. The Small One by Alex Walsh

The Small One is an elderly donkey who is being sold by a small boy. The boy wants him to go to a good home, and he finds one with Mary and Joseph. It’s an unexpected story that can be seen as a cartoon on Disney+.

28. I Spy Christmas: A Book of Picture Riddles by Jean Marzollo

The I Spy books are Search-and-Find and are fun for kids of all ages. Ronia loves to look through the smattering of objects to find hidden objects.

29. Stories of Jesus by Little Grasshopper Books

Okay, so this is not one book, but a set of small books. These board books are based on the life and teachings of Jesus. Perfect for little hands! I included this set, because a couple of the little books talk about the birth of Jesus.

30. Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by Eric Litwin

Pete the Cat Saves Christmas is a twist on the classic Night Before Christmas tale. He is a groovy, blues loving kitty that is new to our family. I will let you know what Ronia thinks about this one over time!
