5 Ways to Teach Your Toddler About Jesus

I’ve recently been taking a good look at how Ronia and I spend each day. My goal as a mother is to raise my daughter well, and as a Christian it is also to teach her about Jesus. Honestly, I’m not sure I’m doing the best job in that regard. So I wrote this blog post mostly for myself, but also for those parents out there who might be struggling like I am. Read below my suggested 5 Ways to Teach Your Toddler About Jesus.

5 Ways to Teach Your Toddler About Jesus

1. Live it Out.

The very best of the 5 Ways to Teach Your Toddler About Jesus is to live it out. Saturate your own life with Jesus and it will pour out onto the lives of your children without you even trying. Get up early and start your day in Bible study and prayer. Pray before meals. Place Bible verses around your home. Get involved at church. Living out your faith is the best testimony you can give.

2. Apologize.

The most difficult way to teach your child about Jesus is to apologize when you are wrong. Yup, even to your toddler. They may not understand the concept of apologies, but do it anyway. No one is perfect and we all need Jesus. When you raise your voice or get mad at your toddler, apologize. Say you are sorry and by showing them what it means to ask for forgiveness you are teaching them about Jesus.

3. Read Together.

Reading the Bible together is always a good idea, but toddlers might have trouble listening to an entire passage of the Bible. Try finding some Bible based board books or stories that might be easier for your child to absorb. I went to a local Christian book store recently and found so so many good books for Ronia to read. Keep an eye out for that blog post coming soon!

4. Include Them.

This goes along with living it out, but perhaps takes that task a step further. When you are praying in the morning or reading your Bible, try to include your child. Ask them questions. Show them how you pray and talk to them about why. Take them with you to church or church events.

5. Attend a Local Church.

The final suggestion in my list of 5 Ways to Teach Your Toddler About Jesus is attending a local church. There is immeasurable value in the church family. If you are not attending church regularly, I highly encourage you to do so. If you aren’t liking your current church or don’t find it a good fit, then maybe try another church. Then once you have established the church you will attend regularly, get involved. Get to know people. Invest you time and efforts and money how you are able. Choosing to be an active part of the body of Christ is something you will never regret.
