5 Inspiring Movies to Watch on Family Movie Night

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, there’s nothing like a good old fashioned movie night with the family. Hot popcorn and snacks, snuggling in the couch and layers of blankets. So very hygge. Below are 5 Inspiring Movies to Watch on Family Movie Night. Each of the movies on this list are underrated and sure to inspire you and the kids to dream big!

(Remember, streaming TV or movies constantly is not super hygge, but scheduling an extra special family movie night once in a while certainly is. Quality time with the ones you love most is always a good use of your time.)

1. Wonder Park

Wonder Park is one of the most underrated and inspiring movies in recent years. I stumbled across it one day when I was pregnant and was simply blown away. If you are looking to encourage STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics), then this film is perfect. Wonder Park will certainly revive the imagination.

2. Tomorrowland

Speaking of imagination, Tomorrowland is another ideal movie to encourage STEAM subjects. Now, this film may not have been well received at its release (scoring a 50% on rotten tomatoes), but it has since earned 4.5 stars on Amazon and rightfully so. After watching this film you will wish you could go to Tomorrowland today.

3. The Lorax

Another inspiring movie for family movie night is The Lorax. I’m a sucker for anything Dr. Seuss. What I love in particular about the Lorax is that it presents an opportunity to discuss the environment and our impact on the planet. Every time I watch the Lorax or read the book to my daughter I am reminded of how little choices can affect big change. Like Dr. Seuess said, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

4. Meet the Robinsons

Another extremely underrated and inspiring movie is Meet the Robinsons. Again, I’m not sure why it didn’t have more success at its original release. Meet the Robinsons not only inspires STEAM subjects, but emphasizes the importance of family and owning your own individuality. The Robinson family is a group of strange and wonderful people who love each other regardless. They are supportive of one another’s dreams and that’s a beautiful thing. I can’t say enough good things about the film. It’s definitely worth the watch!

5. Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest

The final movie in our list of 5 Inspiring Movies to Watch on Family Movie Night is Fern Gully. This beautiful film was by far one of my favorite movies as a child, back when we watched movies on VHS and had to rewind them in order to watch again. Remember those days? Anyway, Fern Gully is another movie that emphasizes the importance of taking care of the planet. (I will say if you have a sensitive child the bad guy in this movie might scare them a little.)
