7 Essentials for an Organized Mom Life

An alternative title for this post would have been Essentials for Keeping Sane as a Mom, because isn’t mom life basically organized chaos? Over the past year I’ve learned what works and doesn’t work for me through trial and error. I thought I would save you the headache and share what I’ve learned. Below are my 7 Essentials for an Organized Mom Life.

7 Essentials for an Organized Mom Life

1. A Quality Planner

My first of 7 Essentials for an Organized Mom Life is a quality planner. I say quality, because not every planner is worth the money. I recommend not just buying the first thing you see on the shelf. Rather, think about your needs and find a planner that works for you. My planner is from Golden Coil and it is just beautiful. It tracks everything from my monthly grocery list and every day to-dos to birthdays, celebrations and content planning. I customized it to be exactly what I need it to be, so it works perfectly for me. If you are a mom who needs better organization, I cannot recommend Golden Coil enough!

2. A Clean Diaper Bag

Every mom needs some sort of diaper bag, but what’s important is having a clean diaper bag. By this I mean take the time every day to at least glance at your bag and restock it if necessary. Then maybe once a week or two give it a good deep clean. There’s nothing worse than needing to go somewhere last second and not having what you need in the diaper bag. Or getting somewhere and realizing you don’t have diapers. Well, there are things that are worse but you get my point. It’s not fun.

3. A Bedtime Routine

Now, don’t worry, I’m not necessarily talking about having a solid bedtime routine for your little ones. Although, we have certainly benefited from Ronia’s routine. No, I actually mean you should establish a bedtime routine for yourself. What can you do to feel prepared for tomorrow? For me it’s looking over my calendar and tidying the house. What can you do to feel relaxed to get a good nights sleep? For me it’s reading or washing my face. Find a rhythm that works best for you.

4. A Good Bible Study

You might be wondering why Bible study is on a list of 7 Essentials for an Organized Mom Life. Well, I have found that no amount of organizational tools or time can help me feel less stressed if I’m not spending time alone with God. Finding a good Bible Study to walk through is the most important thing you can do. Give your schedule over to your Heavenly Father and trust Him with it.

5. A Weekly Family Meeting

One thing that helps me to stay organized throughout the week is to have a weekly meeting with my husband. During this meeting we walk through each day for the next week and talk about priorities, appointments, date night, etc. It helps us both to prepare ahead of time when we communicate about what the week will bring.

6. Time to Meal Prep

In my experience, making the time to prep food for the week is essential in my success. When I don’t know what to feed Ronia or Colton or myself then it’s just utter chaos. Especially because two of the three of us tend to get hangry….and it isn’t Colton. Marking out time on your calendar each week to do a little meal prep is essential for me to stay more organized throughout the week.

7. That Gut Feeling

I wasn’t sure how to explain this last of the 7 Essentials for an Organized Mom Life, because it’s so intangible. Every mom has a gut feeling. You know when you need rest or need to get things done, what’s important and what can wait, what you can get done with kids around and what must wait for nap time. That knowledge or feeling is my last essential item.

Every day will look different. Motherhood is unpredictable and comes with many rewards and challenges. Staying organized isn’t about being perfect. It’s about doing your best for your family, because you desire to honor them and God. You will fail. You will forget things or need a break or fall apart. There might be a day you just want to be in the moment and not worry about the laundry. That’s all okay. Listen to that voice inside your head and do your best, because that’s all any of us can do.
